What kind of nurse do you want to be?
I want to be a well-rounded nurse, one who is compassionate and looks at the whole picture, not just a diagnosis. My goal is to provide care that considers everything a patient is going through, making sure they feel seen and understood.
What has been the most challenging part of your journey?
I’ve faced challenges with my health, time, and family. Health concerns can be scary, and the worry that something might take me away from my studies is always there. Since my family lives in New Jersey, I sometimes feel homesick. And with school and work, it’s hard to find time to spend with my husband and other loved ones. The support I’ve received has made a huge difference in managing these stresses.
Who or what helped you along the way?
My family is always my biggest support system. My husband is always by my side, especially when I get discouraged and wonder if I’ll make it. He reminds me that it’s okay even to just barely pass—that everything will be fine. Thinking about the patients I’ll be able to help and my future colleagues in the nursing field also helps me stay motivated.
What is something people might not know about your hospital colleagues?
I’ve been in orientation, and I’ve met some of the kindest nurses. They are so supportive, literally holding my hand and teaching me. They are patient and kind when I make a mistake. I’ve learned so much from the way they go above and beyond for their patients. My colleagues are truly wonderful.
What is your favorite place in Manhattan?
My favorite place in Manhattan is Uncorked. You walk in and paint, and it’s so relaxing—it makes you forget about everything. It’s a great thing to do. My husband and I also have to get a taco from Taco Lucha whenever we’re in the area.
