Mary Brighton: A Future in Compassionate Care

volunteer profile posting

High school senior Mary Brighton is already preparing for her future, driven by a personal mission to help others. As a Type-1 Diabetic, Mary’s ultimate goal is to enter the healthcare field and support diabetic patients. Her volunteer position in the Birth and Women’s Clinic is giving her invaluable early experience.

“It is meaningful to see how patients feel taken care of… I hope to make others feel thought of in the future.”

— Mary Brighton, High School Senior & Birth and Women’s Clinic Volunteer

Volunteering through a class at Manhattan High, Mary is gaining firsthand exposure to the hospital environment. One of her key tasks is offering treats and drinks to new postpartum families. Mary finds these simple interactions deeply rewarding: “Each time I walk into a room, they are happy and touched at the offer. It is meaningful to see how patients feel taken care of, and I hope to make others feel thought of in the future.”

Mary wants the community to recognize the important role volunteers play. She admits that before this experience, she “had no idea volunteers played so many roles” at the hospital. Her dedication shows that even high school students can make a significant and compassionate impact on patient experience.
