The Manhattan Community Health Foundation is proud to announce that the board of directors selected Mary Lindquist and Family as the recipients of the inaugural Cornerstone of Community Health Award. This prestigious honor will be formally presented at the 2026 Crystal Gala: A Night of Impact on Saturday, February 21, at the K-State Alumni Center.
The Cornerstone Award recognizes individuals or families who demonstrate impactful leadership through innovation, collaboration, and a commitment to health equity. Mary Lindquist, a dedicated community member and graduate of Kansas State University and the University of Kansas Medical Center, was a profound source of inspiration to the Manhattan community throughout her life.
In 2008, the Lindquist family, in partnership with the hospital Auxiliary and community donors, established the Mary Lindquist Auxiliary Scholars program to honor Mary’s legacy and her deep dedication to the healthcare professionals who serve Manhattan’s community hospital. By providing scholarships for specialized training and continuing education, the program ensures that hospital associates have the skills necessary to provide high-quality care close to home.
“Mary Lindquist and her family have been a true catalyst for a healthier Manhattan,” said Chris Spooner, Foundation Director. “By removing financial barriers for our healthcare workforce, they have improved patient care outcomes for the entire community. Their commitment to building strong partnerships and championing equitable access is exactly what this award represents”.
The announcement of this award comes as the Manhattan Community Health Foundation prepares for the 2026 Crystal Gala, this year’s focus on raising $60,000 for the Flint Hills Community Care Team (FHCCT). The FHCCT is a collaborative coalition of 30 organizations that provides “wrap-around” services for Manhattan’s most vulnerable residents, addressing critical barriers such as housing insecurity, mental health, and transportation.
Proceeds from the Gala will fund a part-time Care Team Coordinator for three years. This position acts as the essential “glue” that allows local agencies—including the hospital, Manhattan Emergency Shelter, Inc., Shepherds Crossing, Be Able Community, Pawnee Mental Health Services, and Riley County EMS—to work from the same playbook and prevent individuals from falling through the cracks.
Tickets for the Crystal Gala are available now from this link. The evening will include dinner prepared by One Egg Catering, a live auction, and the celebration of the Lindquist family’s enduring legacy, culminating in dancing to Out Loud’s live performance.
