“A healthy Manhattan means a vibrant community, a productive workforce, and a better place to raise a family.”
— Andy Ellis, Board Chair
On a personal level, why did you feel compelled to join this foundation’s board? I know how important the quality of care provided by Manhattan’s nurses, physicians, and support staff is because, at a basic level, I am a consumer of that care. Ensuring that my children, spouse, and other family members who live in the community receive consistent and appropriate healthcare is a key element of my quality of life.
Can you share a specific story that illustrates how this foundation has made a difference? Hearing the gratitude from some of the parents with children who have benefitted from the pediatric physical therapy services that the foundation has been able to provide is extremely powerful. Without the foundation’s support, those services would have had to be provided in other communities, some as far as two hours away.
When you envision the future of healthcare in Manhattan, what do you hope it looks like? I hope that Manhattan can continue to be a place where local healthcare providers are able to respond to local needs. Encouraging wellness at a personal level and working with primary care providers to fulfill needs before they require specialist intervention must be a priority.
