“I have been able to have conversations with many patients! They are always appreciative of me giving time to listen or talk with them, and I feel that these experiences are meaningful to both me and the patients.”
— Adrienne Pamatmat, K-State Senior & Hospital Volunteer
As a K-State senior studying Human Health Biology, Adrienne Pamatmat is passionate about both science and service. She has spent the last seven months volunteering on the Med/Surg floor, gaining valuable experience that complements her work as a Medical Assistant and an undergraduate researcher in a Lyme disease lab.
For Adrienne, volunteering is all about making meaningful connections. She believes it’s important to find ways to help others in your community, and her time at the hospital has given her a unique perspective on the healthcare atmosphere.
Adrienne cherishes the conversations she’s had with patients. “They are always appreciative of me giving time to listen or talk with them,” she says. These small moments of connection are what make her efforts so meaningful. She wants others to know that even if a volunteer’s tasks aren’t as complex as a trained professional’s, simply “showing up and helping in any way you can is still valuable!”
